Opening a file with
MS FrontPage
Now that you know how to create a file it's time to open a
file. There are a couple of different aspects into doing things with MS
FrontPage because of the close net publishing capabilities. With FrontPage
you can actually capture your web server so that you can save and open files
right off the server. We don't want to get ahead of our selves so first let's open
a page off our hard drive.
There is three methods to opening
files.
Method One
Using your mouse or the alt key
Using Mouse: on the
file menu click Open (ctrl+O) then click on that.
Using alt key: Press on the alt key, then the arrow
<down>, <down> and <Enter>
If you've followed the directions you've got a window like
below!

After this window pops up you can click on the folders in the
top left to get the directory in which you have HTML files (if you don't have
any check in your C:\WINDOWS/Web/ directory).
Then double click on the file in which you want to open. It's that easy.
Second Method
Using your mouse again, but this time using the little
open file icon. Notice that the open page icon has a little arrow on the right side. This
will be more important as we go on to see what the option Open Web Selection is.
That's part of the third method!
Using your mouse and clicking on the open page icon will automatically open the open folder window. Double click on it and
BOP! There
it is.
Third
Method
Now this is probably the best thing that could have happen to FrontPage's
opening method. You can actually have your website on file with FrontPage
by using the Web folder button either under the Open Window, or the Open icon's
little down arrow.
The
Web Folder icon takes you to an Add FTP icon. If your server is has
FrontPage extensions you can double click to setup to add FTP. Once you've continued,
click to setup so you can Add FTP you will be placed into the connection wizard. The
wizard is pretty self explanatory. Follow the directions, and if it doesn't work
then you don't have FrontPage file extensions on your web server. That means you
will have to save everything to your hard drive and then FTP it to your server.
